Tulips and Tom Jones (Sold)

Tulips (30x40) Sold

So.. Tom Jones.. Since I came clean not that long ago about my Pez addiction, I figured hey, go for it and admit to it all. I love Tom Jones. Until this moment, only three people knew this. I made them swear that when they presented me with gifts of his Cd's, not to tell a soul. They will probably kill me now as they kept my secret for years. I watched a program on him and saw a concert he did before I even knew who he was and then one much later in his life. The only thing I noticed that was different, was the bikini underwear and bras that panting, hysterical women threw at him then, were replaced with girdle's and much larger bras. I love that man.

A trip...

House by the Sea (Watercolour 12x10)

I took my art students on a trip today to the Mahone Bay Centre in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. It is an old schoolhouse that is now used for so many wonderful things that benefit the arts and the community. I have never been so proud to take a group of young artists anywhere. I must admit, I felt much like a proud mother duck, taking her ducklings on their first little "float" in the water. Their tiny webbed feet paddling along in a sea of information, and styles of art.  They were shy at first. I would be too, being young and seeing all these very talented artists and their studios. This was but a micro second as they soon were asking many questions and were able to overcome their diffidence. It was evident how much these talented people enjoyed sharing with these young future artists. I thank them.
Even though, afterward, my car brakes failed (thank god in the parking lot of the store and not on one of our steep hills) nothing could rub the shine off what I experienced today.

Sitting in a Chair

Ink/Mixed Medium 24x30 $600

I have this really funky chair in my living room. I love that thing. I am obsessed with it. It was a gift from a dear friend who is thoughtful beyond reason! I love that they bought it for me. That  and the fact that it was a gift that came out of the loss of something else means even more.  I don't let messy people sit in it so you know how I protect it. Even tidy people can only drink white wine in that chair....just in case. If there was a catastrophe, some people would grab their photo album's, their other precious belongings, I would attempt to carry that chair on my back to save it. (That and my faithful dog Barclay's ashes). The other day, after teaching, one of my students sat in that chair. For the first time, I saw a person who should be sitting in it. It looked "just right", kind of like Goldilocks sitting in the perfect bear chair. She looked so comfortable. Her blond hair in a pony tail cascading down her left shoulder and her small hands holding a couple of webkin baby lab dogs.  I think that her mother in a strange way, recognized it too. Her Mum said, that chair is such an "Anya" chair.  Perhaps, but her daughter placed so perfectly in it, made it the "perfect" chair....

Discombobulated and covered with Pen and Coloured Ink

Why is it that I start a painting, then start another, then get into a discussion about music and art and then end up with two paintings that are incomplete? Is it my A.D.D? Perhaps. A huge conversation about art and music . How to pursue a love of anything will do that. Does it make us perform better or does it just confuse the issue? Too much talk. So... I promise to complete these two paintings (one that I had previously posted) and this one too.  Wait, perhaps I like it the way it is....unfinished, like the conversation and perhaps the solution.

Request to post earlier works

 Pen and Ink

I received an email from a follower wanting to know about my earlier works. Where are they and do I have any record of them?  I know where some are. Very early works,  I did not keep track of. I do know that the Pen and Ink went to another artist who admired it. That got me thinking about the first painting I ever sold. It was purchased by an American couple.  I have sold many since, but I will never forget that day. I guess an artist never does.

Self Portrait...

Self Portrait... Ink on Paper and Such

Every Artist is supposed to at least once, attempt a self portrait. I hate having my picture taken so this is a struggle. I taught a class today on this so thought, in the company of those who are like minded and non judgemental , I would give it a go. (Probably a good thing since I am supposed to be teaching it). No matter how we see ourselves, there is no convincing us that it is not how others view us. We would never believe them anyway if they told us. One of my crazy wishes, would be for all of us to see ourselves as others do. What an eye opener that would be.  Ok, so the representation of myself seems rather serious in this ink on paper plus other mediums, but it is not so......or is it?

The Gig (All of it)

The Gig....
I did this painting for fun. Sometimes you just have to paint for the sake of painting!

Calm

Sold

A sense of calm falls at the end of the holidays. There is the week after when I let out a long sigh. I love the Christmas lights, the entertaining, the food and the laughter but this feeling of quiet is so nice too.  It's that "everything is done" feeling and I can snuggle up and watch old movies, paint and putter around in my studio. I have the most beautiful inks that I have plans for on a large canvas. Something abstract for sure.
